Whilst we are very much a local independent group that cares for where we live, litter pollution is a worldwide problem.
The collecting of aluminium cans for recycling/fundraising is not included in the bag count unless they are litter from parks, roadside etc

It all adds up
We and Keep Britain Tidy believe recording and sharing the results of all litter picking is just as important as picking up the litter itself.
It is only by sharing this information that for example campaigns like reinstating the deposit return scheme will succeed and the scale of the litter problem will be addressed.
We have been recording our bagged litter since late 2018 and between us have filled around 8,000 sacks each year.
Previously we have not included in the count larger items that we don’t put in a bag. (Approved bags are hard to get hold of.)
Since January 1st 2024 we have included larger items as per Keep Britain Tidy guidance which will help to standardise the recording of litter removed throughout the UK.
The pictures give you an idea of many of the items that were previously unrecorded and also show KBT guidance on recording.
Rita our KBT ambassador submits figures monthly and we encourage anyone who picks up litter across the district to let us know either at the time or at the end of each month.
