Good News?
Well positive news, maybe. The fact that litter is tossed around our community can't be Good News, but Good News that community-spirited volunteers do something about it.
So,
Good News!

NEW ROMNEY FAYRE
New Romney Country Fayre:
New Romney country Fayre and Parade Year 2019.
As you're probably aware The Litter Picking Watch Romney Marsh are a group of Volunteers whose aim is to keep our towns, countryside, and beaches litter free. We are all proud of what we do for our communities.
The group do much more than litter picking, including reporting blocked drains, damaged road signs and more. We also do some events raising money for worthy causes. I am writing this about one particular Community Event which is The New Romney Fayre and Parade of 2019. Unfortunately, this was to be the last one before the Covid Virus outbreak in 2020.
The New Romney Country Fayre was set up in 1994 by a group of traders and Town Councillors who wanted an outdoor event that would bring the town together. The New Romney Country Fayre then became the great Community Annual Event for the Marsh & surrounding areas.
The 2019 event was named as “English Garden Event" our group LPWRM were able to be in the parade and fayre in celebration of the New Romney Country Fayre’s 25th Anniversary.
As fancy dress was the theme, and we are litter pickers we decided to wear an assortment of litter. Those that attended from the group decorated their hats, clothes, shoes with litter, carrying the litter pickers in their hand. They all looked fantastic in their bright yellow Hi Viz attire, the children did too.
The parade started at the Marsh Academy school down to the High Street around various roads. Our trailer decorated in pictures of animals and sea life was a colourful spectacle in itself. We paraded down the high street rattling our buckets for donations while the crowds aligned the street clapping, you couldn't help dancing along with the bands playing in the parade, everyone was enjoying themselves as we moved around the streets to reach our final destination in St. Martin’s Field.
Great crowds were already there, and the stalls were set up with goods for sale ranging from Crafters, Local Charities, Gifts, Tombola, Local products, Food Stalls. The Romney Marsh Countryside Project. Fire Service, St John’s Ambulance. Cadets, RSPB. Amusements. With plenty of entertainment for children and families, plus many more things to watch. Their displays were excellent full of information.
The Arena was already set up ready for the many acts that were appearing. The Fancy dress winners would be announced near the end of the day along with raffle. These are just a few of the acts taking part, Highland Bag Pipes, Dogs, Dancers, Morris Dancers, Marching Bands, Amateur Dramatics, Children dressed as flowers, Dancers. Two policemen dressed in oversized blue uniforms were clowning around making crowds laugh it was very silly but funny. it was great fun watching them all in their colourful costumes
Plenty to do and see with lots of excitement. Finally, the announcement of the overall winners of the fancy dress were announced. 1st place went to the New Romney Amateur Dramatics, 2nd place New Romney Children's Centre. These groups both received certificate for there beautiful costumes. A certificate also went to the Largest and Smallest Group in the Parade.
This event was well organised and is such a great community event it attracts people from all villages and towns around the Marsh also visitors to the area. A great day out for everyone and it truly does bring the communities together. It was so entertaining which made us sad to see the fun come to an end. A great day was had by all the locals and visitors that attended.
At 1700 hrs the fayre finished, and the fields needed to be litter picked. So, with pickers & bags in hand our team of volunteers litter picked both fields and surrounding areas making the area litter free again.
